How to Share and Collaborate Files from Object Storage on Linode Cloud

Securely share and collaborate files/folders from your existing Linode object storage with external users using efficient access control with the aid of NirvaShare. The file sharing service on Linode can be also used to effectively integrate with any of the existing identity providers such as Active Directory, Google Workspace, Key Cloak, etc.

The FREE edition supports authentication such as Basic, Form, and OTP while sharing files. In this document, we will discuss the steps to create a simple Form based authentication to share files from Linode Object Storage. Please follow this documentation to proceed.

Prerequisites

You should ensure that NirvaShare is installed in your system environment to share files. You can do it in either of the two ways mentioned below.

 

Storage Configuration

Now configure Linode Storage to support file sharing using Form based Authentication by referring to below documentation.

Form based Authentication

To prevent data leaks, security is of prime importance while sharing files. NirvaShare offers multiple authentication methods to facilitate secure file sharing. In the below document, you can find the procedure to create a login profile using a basic Form based authentication.

Shares

At this instance, you can initiate file sharing using Form based authentication from Linode object storage.For creating a folder share and to create a new share from Storage, the steps are listed in the below document.Remember to select the login profile that was created in the above section for the share configuration. The same login profile can be used irrespective of the number of shares.

Verification

  • In order to verify file sharing, Copy the Shareable Link from the shares.
  • Open the link in a new browser tab. This will redirect to Form based authentication.
  • Once the authentication is effective, you should be able to access Shares assigned to the login profile.
  • This link can be emailed or shared with your users.
